Change Log
Update: 2015-08-21
- Long-awaited database update includes all CGs published at Cuepoint/Medium
(ended May 29, 2015). Stubs are provided for first two weeks of Expert Witness
at Noisey.
- Rolls up whatever new or rediscovered pieces have appeared since the last
update. (I don't have a list, but I don't think there's been much.)
- Added stubs for records in Dean's Lists not in database.
- Changed stylesheet for Carola Dibbell's
corner, to make it more consistent with her
proper website.
- Added "Venues" section to menu. This allows you (not to mention me) to
go directly to indexes on other websites which publish Christgau's work
(currently just Noisey; BN Review and NPR could be added if they become
more active).
- Fixed some confusion with the menu Twitter button.
- Note: Although there had been no formal update since October 2014,
a number of articles and pages had been uploaded individually -- e.g.,
the book page for
Going Into the City (which now has a Table
of Contents and some more recent review links).
- The news feed now has links for "Most Recent," "More Recent," and
"More Ancient" -- terms I hope are self-explanatory. (No easy way to
jump directly to "Most Ancient," unless you just plug an "?sk=N" onto
the URI, where N is currently 360 -- the notices go back to 2006.)
The chunksize is still hardwired at 20.

- Rewrote the lists page called "Subjects for Further Research" as
Further Notes, since the list it
generates from the database isn't limited to SFFR, and there's no easy
way to split it into multiple listings since they overload the same
database table column. (Actually, we could do this with artist-associative
lists, but not right now.)
- Commented out "Expert Witness" navigation link.

- Added NPR link for: Coal Miner's Daughter. Changed search URL
to one that seems to work better (eliminates false positives).
- Changed get_artist.php to treat "Subjects for Future Research" more
generally, as "Further Notes"; it has previously only been used for SFFR
from the CG '90s book, but can now be used for all of the book endmatter
lists, even "Meltdown."
- Collated and documented the 2007
Rhapsody CG Release, updating many CG entries. See file for details.
- Introduced a
script to find EPs in the CG database. This
has not been integrated into the CG page. It inspects
the "type" field in the "album" database table. The default type value is
"2" (for EP). One can test other values by explicitly specifying them by
adding
?t=N to the URI, where N
is the test value (1: reissue compilations, 3: 12-inch singles, 4: downloads,
6: download EPs).
- Created a "private corner" of the website for pieces written by
Georgia Christgau. As this is unauthorized and unpublicized, you'll
have to guess where it is.
- Initiated this Change Log.
- Didn't do: sort through all of the possible issues raised on the new
Newsday pieces, including didn't merge capsule reviews; update url table
and add appropriate alinks; get Forster interview from Christgau; get
answers to numerous issues raised by Rhapsody CG merge; other stuff I
can't even remember now.
